On Thursday June 10, Hermès will re-open its newly expanded Chicago store in the old Barney’s building, on the
corner of Oak and Rush Streets. The 6,000 square-foot store will carry the comprehensive Hermès collection, including leather goods, silk scarves, perfumes, ready-to-wear, and more!

Designed by Parisian architectural agency, RDAI, the new bi-level store is decorated with a combination of modern and classic design accouterments, borrowing aspects from the original Hermès store in Paris.

To celebrate the occasion, Hermes has designed a limited edition scarf called the Paddock that will only be available for purchase at the 25 E Oak St. location.

Alternative supergroup, The Dead Weather(Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Jack White (The White Stripes and The Raconteurs), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs)) is playing a Microsoft KIN-sponsored show this Saturday. The best part, it’s FREE! Here’s the catch, the location is sealed until the day of the show and it’s first come first served. All we know is that it will be held in an obscure location. Previous KIN shows were held at a classic car club and a community center. So let the guessing begin!

I haven’t been this excited since the Q101 Weezer scavenger hunt in the 90′s which ended up being held at a skating rink. If this is anything like that, it’s going to be AMAZING!!

Koro has worked with NARS for over 15 years including the recent AW10 Marc Jacobs runway show. For the past two years Chicagoans have been waiting with bated breath for the Marc Jacobs Collection store to finish construction and open its doors. On February 25th the rent-a-fence finally came down. Company President and our favorite (former)twitterbug, Robert Duffy was there to unveil the 3,000-square-foot Gold Coast space.

The lavish boutique, situated on the corner of Rush and Walton, is distinguished by a classic revolving door (a personal request from Duffy himself), contemporary blown-glass chandelier, and sleek modern decor. As a bookend to The Elysian, a brand new luxury hotel/condo complex, the store is sure to draw a much different crowd than its Bucktown counterpart, Marc by Marc, though Duffy feels strongly that the haute looks and higher price points of the Collection store will not repel locals. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Duffy sees Chicago and the rest of the Midwest as an untapped epicenter for inspiration and originality. “I think of all the
people I know that have come out of the Midwest: Halston, Bill Blass. They go on to other places but there are a lot of people here that are stylish and cool.” The same type of influential crowd he believes will be attracted to the store.

That evening, the shop was properly welcomed to town with a fabulous invite-only dinner party. Close to 200 of the city’s fashion elite along with the Marc Jacobs execs celebrated with champagne and caviar, followed by a five course meal consisting of foie gras, beet salad, short ribs and more foie gras. A carnivore’s delight! An old school photo booth accompanied by a table full of accessories from the Marc Jacobs Spring 09 runway show were on hand to distract diners between courses and capture the memories.

After dinner, attendees were given gift bags filled with Marc swag — Lola perfume, Travel Bag, Juergen Teller T and macaroons from Elysian restaurant, Balsan — and shuttled over to River North club, The Underground.

All in all, the event was a success and a smashing way to usher in a store that is sure to make its Marc mark on Chicago. Witness the splendor yourself at 11 E. Walton | Chicago, Il 60611.

It all started when I saw Nicole James’ Facebook status update, “Please try chatroulette if you have not yet”. The next day, Daily Candy tweeted, “You never know when you’ll be asked to show your bra on Chatroulette”. That same night the local news
told me to “beware of Chatroulette”. And that was that. I knew I had to
try the latest social phenomenon to hit the Internet for myself.

Before logging on I did a little research, just so I knew exactly what I was in for. The first thing I found was The 24 Best Chat Roulette Screenshots. After LOLing for 10 minutes, I went to the site and pressed “Play”.

My first encounter was with a really hot guy. Uneasy, not knowing what to say, and loathing the surreality of it all, I clicked, “Next”. Before I knew it, the side profile of an elderly man with a bald head and a ring of bright white hair appeared. I was scared shitless. I don’t even talk to old people that I don’t know in real life! How was this happening? I closed the tab and decided I would be more comfortable experiencing this voyeuristic activity with a partner in crime. The next day, after getting over my initial fears (mostly of encountering perverts and strangers), I recruited my roommate to aid me in this social experiment.

After putting on full faces of makeup, on the off chance that we would encounter a celebrity, we sat in our living room spinning the metaphorical wheel. If you haven’t done it, the best way I can describe it is “early 90s chatroom meets Elimidate.”

One by one, we met an array of interesting people, most of which were men and many of whom were
from France. We were only “nexted” once and it was by the one other woman that was logged on. Surprisingly, it wasn’t until the last half hour that we came across the masturbators everyone is talking about. Out of 40 people we met (not including: the tent, a live white cat, two different dancing robots and a “Dick 4 Pussy” sign) most seemed pretty normal, albeit this was via video chat.

There was the guy from Denver who lived in a studio apartment and hung pots on the wall due to insufficient space. The emo
boy from Norway sitting in a dark room just staring back at us. Two frat guys from “The Murder Mitten” asking to see our boobs. Danny the hot lab tech from Dallas. The list can go on but the whole point is that everyone was trying this thing for the same two
reasons: to meet new people and to be entertained. After realizing that, it wasn’t so scary after all. Once my 60 minutes were up, I
ended up with a few new like-minded Facebook friends and got at least 20 people that were admittedly bored or lonely to laugh and smile.

My experience was better than several other friends that have tried it but I think that’s why it’s called ChatROULETTE. Once you click play you’re taking a gamble. It’s definitely worth a try. I mean, what other time in your life will it be acceptable to opt out of a meeting the minute you get bored, take a break from being you and be “Sophie from Russia”, or watch real, live reality at a moment’s notice?
